Fear has a way of peaking at you around the corner. You whirl around to capture its gaze, but never see it. It moves away just in time. But you are always aware of its presence. It’s a gnawing fear of what might happen tomorrow. Safety and security is threatened by health issues or job loss. The teenage kids are rebelling and the older ones are just not growing up – making bad decision after bad decision. Fear reveals within us the lack of power or control that we thought we had, and it terrifies us!
I think we all have a tendency to get so wrapped up in this world. We focus on self instead of others. We distract ourselves with things rather than people or the things of God. We like to stake our claim on this earth and go to great lengths to preserve our stake thinking it might bring us security. But then we easily forget who’s world this is in the first place. Is this not God’s world? Is He not the Creator? Is He not the Sovereign God who is personally involved in all matters on the earth? We are forced to examine our lives and our priorities and ask ourselves, “What is really the most important?” Thankfully the Lord allows us to put on a new pair of glasses that see Jesus and recognize the temporal for what it is. These pair of glasses allows us by faith to see what is eternal and far more important than anything else this world can provide. With a eternal persepctive, we can face tomorrow without any fear.
So, bad things are going to happen. It’s part of life in a fallen world. Even so, God has pormoised that he will tell us what to do when we just have plum run out of ideas. He has a way of leading us to proper reponses and attitudes. He promises that through the power of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13), He will instruct, convict and guide us. When everything around us is in chaos or panic, God grants us peace and calm. Mainly because we know that all things are working out for the good – especially for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
That is the eternal perspective!
What a wonderful message.
All I can add is AMEN!
